Goofy/Pluto Class

For all of you who signed up for the Goofy/Pluto class, I apologize that we had to cancel. Unfortunately, there was a family emergency during that time. Your kits are now at the Shoppe and can be picked up starting tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 4th). I believe there is one extra...first come, first serve! (You might want to call Cheryl just to be sure it's still available 706-321-0202).

There are a couple of things I wanted to mention as well as provide some pictures for you all to go by.

1) The dimensions for cutting both the striped and dot paper are on the back of each sheet.

2) For the butterfly:

In your kit, you will find two green butterfly shapes as well as two orange wings. Adhere the orange wings to one of the green butterflies. Next, adhere (only the bodies) of the two green butterflies together. Then, bend the wings so you will have a fold on each side of it's body. The pop dots will go under each wing. And here is a bit of a visual for you...notice the fold lines on each side of the butterfly's body:

It was difficult to get a good picture from this angle, but hopefully you get the idea. Once you have your butterfly assembled, adhere it to your page...then add the rhinestones and eyes. (If you have one, I find the Aleene's Tacky Glue pen works best for this purpose).

3) Aleene's Paper Glaze was used to make both the buttons and the Goofy/Pluto shiny. I believe Cheryl has this in stock at the Shoppe. If not, I'm sure she would be happy to order some for you.

A fun day!

On Saturday, I had the most wonderful experience that I just couldn't wait to share with all of you! Our local scrapbook store "The Scrapbook Shoppe" held a class taught by none other than the very talented Stephanie Howell!

There were many thoughts that immediately came to mind within the first few minutes of meeting her. First, what a warm, sweet person! Her friendly personality immediately made you feel at ease and the overall atmosphere to the class itself was so laid back. It felt like you were scrapbooking with a bunch of friends.

I was amazed at how perfectly our class kits were presented!! There were even very detailed directions to each project (along with pictures!). The enormous amount of work she put into this was very obvious. And the giveaways (along with the variety of product in our class kits) were awesome!! Each kit featured lots of goodies from wonderful companies such as Lily Bee, Jenni Bowlin, and Studio Calico.

So, today, I want to thank Stephanie, the Scrapbook Shoppe, and the generous companies who sponsored this fun class! Stephanie, I hope you felt welcome (because you very much were!) and I hope you'll come back again real soon!

A quick tip!

How about a little helpful tip for today? I thought I'd share what kinds of inks I like to use in my scrapbooking and cardmaking.

For inking to add dimension to my layout, I prefer the Tim Holtz Distress Inks. But when it comes to stamping, I use something entirely different.

For a long time, stamping sentiments on cards or layouts was a problem for me. After trying many different ink pads, I became frustrated in that I could never get a clean, crisp image. Then, someone suggested I try the Versafine ink pad by Tsukinkeo...and I'm so glad I did!! It is amazing!!! Although it comes in a variety of colors, I chose the Onyx Black, because it's so versatile. I highly recommend this for your stamping needs!

A great new product coming to the Shoppe!!

I have always loved inking and chalking my diecuts. In fact, I even love inking the edges of my photo mats. I find this gives such a nice dimension to my pages, cards, and diecuts.

Awhile back, I came across this wonderful tool. Perhaps you've even heard me mention it. But in case not, let me tell you a little about it, and why I love it so much. It's called the Inkssentials Ink Blending Tool, and it looks like this:

Why do I love it so much? Well, the first reason is the handle. Finally, I can ink my projects without worrying about getting my hands covered!! The tool comes with two foam pads (the foam is attached to the tool with velcro). So, if you want to change the ink colors you are using when working on a project, just peel off one foam pad and add a new one!

Also, unlike some ink pads that seem to quickly fall apart, these foam pads hold up very well!

The only problem I have found is in trying to find the replacement foam pads. I have looked all over town and they are nowhere to be found. That is when I contacted Cheryl. (Isn't it great to have a local scrapbook store?!)

I told her about this amazing product and how I knew alot of you would probably love it. And I asked about the possiblity of ordering some for the store. Of course, Cheryl said yes!! YAY!!!! So, they're on their way and will hopefully be in on Monday (but feel free to call the Shoppe first, just to make sure they arrived).

As you know, I would never recommend a product to anyone that I did not use and love myself. I really think this is an item you all will fall in love with once you try it out. And from what I recall, the cost is very reasonable (I want to say about $5 for the tool. The refill pads are also (I believe) about $5 and have ten in each package).

Oh, one more thing! If you don't like the idea of having to change out your foam pads each time, there is a nifty spinner that will hold several tools at once. This is so cute and will keep everything right at your finger tips! (not to mention look adorable on your desk). Here is a picture:

Want to hear the best part? The spinner is only about $20!! (tools are extra. So, be sure if you decide to order the spinner to also order any additional tools you may be needing). One Storybook cartridge, $35 (cash only). The cartridge came as part of an Expression bundle, so it does not have the blister packaging. But it has not been used or linked to a Gypsy. It comes in it's original box with the booklet, overlay and the cartridge itself.

This cartridge has alot of elegant images such as swirls, flourishes, etc. It also has a beautiful font which would be perfect for your Valentine's Day pictures!!

New online class...

A new online class is now up at the Shoppe and ready for sign ups. You may remember last year I taught a class called "Toad-ally Loveable". Well, the response to it was so good that I decided to do a second version: "My Heart Leaps 4 U". If you liked the first, you will probably love this one as well. And if you missed out last time, now's your chance!

Kits will be available for pick up on Feb. 13th. For those not familiar with our online classes, in each kit you will receive the website address as well as a password to that particular class. There you will find pictures and directions to make this fun two page layout. Here is a picture of what the class project will be:

I have some exciting news to share! I have decided to start a blog specifically for my Cricut creations. Most of these projects will be layouts, with a few exceptions. The directions will be there for you as well...all free of charge! The only thing I ask is the same I require for this blog: Any of my work found here or at "Cricut Cuteness" should only be used in your personal albums.

Once I learn the ins and outs of my video camera, I hope to put some video tutorials there as well. I plan to put a new project up fairly regularly, so if you'd like to follow, here is the link:

...you will find this cute new layout! It's our class scheduled for the afternoon of Feb. 20th. It's hard to see from the picture but it includes a very touching quote:

"If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so that I never have to live without you." ~ Winnie the Pooh

A couple of things to note:

First, the stickles that I used for the dripping honey will not be included with the class supplies. So, if you would like to do this, please either bring yours to class, or let Cheryl know you would like to order some. The color I used was "Crystal". Because this is a clear glitter glue, it is versatile enough to work with any colored cardstock. So, in addition to this class project, you're sure to get lots of other uses out of it.

Second, please bring your inks and/or chalks with you to class. The other tool I used and would like to recommend is this:I have found this tool to be worth it's weight in gold when it comes to inking! Because it has a handle, no more getting your hands covered with ink. And as much as I love the cat's eye ink pads, I find they can come apart in pieces when trying to apply ink to my page. These foam pads hold up remarkably well. When you're done, simply peel the foam pad from base (it's attached with velcro). Add another foam pad and you're ready for your next project! Super simple!! I absolutely love mine and highly recommend it.

The applicator itself retails for $4.99. And I believe it comes with two foam pads. Refill foam pads come 10 to a pack for $4.99. If you think you'd like to order one for yourself, call the Shoppe to order one today! (706) 321-0202.

"You Melt My Heart"...

Great finds of '09!

Last year I made the decision to start a "My Favorite Things" list...just in time for Christmas. This year I've found a couple of more things to add to my list. I'm calling it "Great Finds of '09"! :o)

First, Martha Stewart's paper trimmer. Cuts like butter! And the best part? It cuts STRAIGHT!! I should probably state that I have tried many paper trimmers over the years, but this one is by far, the best that I have found! Another feature I love is that it has an arm that you can "set. Here is a great video demonstrating that feature.

The only con of this trimmer is that it only goes up to 10 1/2 inches. Not a huge issue in my opinion because most times you're cutting down a 12x12 page anyway.

Another great find is the Martha Stewart border puches. There are two that I absolutely fell in love with. One is the "Punch around the Page" loop border/corner set. There are many other designs that are available all the way from whimsical to the most elegant designs.

If you haven't heard of the Drippy Goo punch, be sure to check that one out too. It's been on the market for awhile. It was a "must have" item last year but this year, you can probably find one at your local Walmart. You can use this punch in sooo many different ways on cards or layouts: icing for cake; drippings from an ice cream; icicles. Lots of fun ideas! If you look at my calendar pages below, for the June page, I used this punch on the photo mat. Isn't it cute?

Aleene's Tacky Glue Pen is another wonderful product. What makes this glue pen different than others, you may be asking? It's refillable!! Last night I spent less than $3 for a huge 16 FL. OZ bottle of Tacky Glue at Walmart...which will last me a looong time! I also love that this glue pen has a fine tip which allows much more control with tiny embellishments.

**If you haven't already, check out my archived Money Saving Tip on how to make your own glue dots using Aleene's Tack It Over and Over. It's another great product that will save you some money.**

And one more thing: Whether you're a card maker or an avid scrapbooker, my best find so far has been the Cricut machine. No words can express how much I love my machine or how much use out of it I've gotten. It was well worth the investment and I highly recommend it. It will help you make beautiful pages in a fraction of the time...and it's incredibly user friendly!!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

I love Christmas. My favorite time of the year!! There is something so wonderfully magical about seeing all the beautiful lights and most of all, knowing the true meaning of the season.

Christmas was always a huge deal at our house. My parents always had such a way of making us feel special. Mom & Dad's gifts to us were wrapped under our tree. But Santa left everything displayed around our fireplace. I still remember the excitement I felt when Mom & Dad would announce that my brother, sister and I could come out to the living room and see what Santa brought. It was good being a kid! And it's even better being able to look back on fun childhood memories such as this and knowing we were so loved.

Probably one of the best gifts my parents gave us though was taking us to church each Sunday so that we could hear about Jesus. That was the most important gift of all. And it's the one I'm most appreciative of.

Anyway, so on with the excitement of this past week:

Monday night I had a fantastic time with the ladies from our church. We had a special evening of fellowship, food, singing Christmas carols... and the revealing of who our Secret Sister has been. It was so much fun!! As it turns out, the person I was giving to was the same person who was giving to me! And she is one of the sweetest ladies you would ever meet! I hope to get to know her better in the months to come. She has blessed me so much with her thoughtfulness.

On Saturday, Cheryl threw a Christmas party at the Shoppe for all of us who participated in Secret Sister there as well! Again, a great time! Of course there was eating....and these ladies sure can cook!! And we exchanged gifts with our Secret Sisters for the last time. Again, I had a sweet Secret Sister.

I thought I'd share what I made for my Secret Sister. Last year, Cheryl taught a calendar class which was wonderful. It's a calendar that hangs from a banana tree...what a fun idea!! I never got around to finishing mine back then, but decided to give it another whirl, in hopes of giving my Secret Sister something handmade. I think the August page is my favorite. I just love all the bright colors and the cute umbrella! And lots of bling throughout which is incredibly Shelley-like! LOL If any of you are wondering, most of the embellishments I used for these pages were made with the Cricut (using many different cartridges).

My latest creation!

Thought I'd share a picture of what I created tonight. I'm sure most of you by now have seen the huge fun diecuts at the Shoppe. Well, I bought three of them. One for a layout of Bailey (our Westie). The other two I intended to layer to make a layout of Muffin.

Here is what I came up with after playing around for a bit. I'm planning on sharing the whole layout once it is done, but for now, you get a sneak peek at my Muffin diecut.

I forgot to take a picture of the Muffin pieces before I worked with them so I'll show you a picture of what the white version of the same diecut looks like.

Very cute, but a little plain. Now, let's see what a little ink, chalk and some bling can do:

Okay, so I see now that the dog is turned the wrong way in the first picture. Oh well. You get the idea. LOL

All I did was simply buy two diecuts...one in light brown and one in dark. I cut pieces out of the darker diecut and glued them on top of the lighter brown dog. Very, very easy. In fact, the diecuts have little detailing/slits all over it, which can serve as a guide on where to cut.

Hope this inspires you to create something fun of your own!!

Another new class!

Elmo class!

Hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones!!

There is still time if you'd like to sign up for the next in our Sesame Street series. This class project features Elmo, along with his cute gold fish Dorothy! Class is scheduled for this Saturday, December 5th from 1-3 p.m. (kits are available if you're not able to attend that day). Please register by calling 706-321-0202.

You can make a difference!

Anyone who knows me is quite familiar with how much of a dog lover I am. And this weekend while at Petsmart having Bailey and Muffin groomed, I discovered the sweetest furbaby there in a cage. Her face absolutely melted my heart.

Her name is Lola and she is a Lhaso Apso. She is beautiful beyond words. I would have adopted her in a second, except she suffers from seizures, and being in a wheelchair, I don't think I can give her the care she would deserve. But I can tell you about her in hopes that someone here can be that loving home for her. The people at Safe Haven animal shelter have told me the medication she needs is cheap...about $10/month. (I believe it was Safe Haven. If not, you can ask the people at Petsmart...the workers wore dark green shirts and were located near the fish dept.) The number for Safe Haven is (706) 582-3629. The number for our local Petsmart is 76-323-6788.

Please, if anyone reading this is looking for a pet, I hope you'll consider adopting her. And if you do, I would love it if you left me a note. Knowing this precious doggie got her forever home would absolutely make my Christmas!!

Found this in my online travels and thought some of you might like to try it. There is this wonderful website called Scrappin Blogs that has all kinds of beautiful templates either for your blog or...your FACEBOOK page!! Yes folks, you can now customize your Facebook profile however you would like it. There are all kinds of themes from military, holidays, babies, adoption, animals, flowers...you name it and I'm sure you'll find it there!

It's very easy. For your blog, they give you codes for you to add as a html code (under "gadgets").

To use on Facebook, on the right hand side of the home page, you will find "How to use our layouts on Facebook". Click on that. On the next page that comes up, there will be tons of backgrounds for you to choose from. They are on the left hand side of the page, categorized according to theme. Now there is one catch. You will have to download the application to be able to use this. Have no fear though...it's free and they walk you through each step from start to finish.

If you do not see anything you like on these pages, you also have the option of choosing a layout on the main portion of the blog. To do this, you will have to copy and paste the link code they give you there. For each layout there is a designated Facebook code (it's under the picture of each layout). Highlight the FB code of the one you like, hold down your Control button and push c (for copy). Then click on the "How to use our layouts on Facebook". On the next screen, you will see a big green button that says "Create Your Own Background". Click that. You want your background color to be white, so choose that. The next screen will be where you put in your link. Click on the empty box. Hold down the Control button again and push v (paste). Once your link code is written in that box, hit the "load button". Then, next step. Choose the color for the font you would like. (I usually just choose black as I find it to be the most versatile). Next step again. Add a layout name if you want...I never do. Then, hit the save and publish button.

When you go to your FB page, you may have to reload it to see your updated background. Now not only will you have a gorgeous background, but you can also see the ones your friends may have!!

In other news...

Last Friday we had a Halloween crop at the Shoppe. There were alot of people who decided to dress up this time, so it was tons of fun! I decided to embrace my quirky sense of humour this year and go as...are you ready for this? "Meals on Wheels"! LOL Here is a picture for your viewing pleasure (or a good laugh...whichever may be the case). A huge thanks to both Cheryl and Bob for their contribution to my costume.

I also made up a complete Halloween menu. I went around taking "orders" and served the customers a little diecut on each plate (to be later used for their Halloween scrapbook pages). It was a lot of fun.

Here is a picture of my taking my friend Kay's order...doesn't she make the cutest witch?? The tulle around her hat had spiders on it!

Daisy Duck, a Joker and a Witch all made an appearance. But I think one of my personal favorites were the costumes my friends Janice and Theresa wore. The came as a pair..."Sick & Tired". Theresa spent a good portion of the night with a thermometer in the corner of her mouth and giving out "pills" to everyone who would like some. It was pee in your pants hilarious! The "pills" were all kinds of great candy like peppermints, M&Ms...all kinds of good stuff. So, we were all too happy to take that kind of medicine! ;o)

And with all that excitement going on last week, I still managed to get a couple of sample pages done for the store. Please note: These are not upcoming classes, but rather pages that are featured at the store to give you a bit of inspiration on how to use some of the papers for sale.

I used some cute Pumpkin paper that Cheryl had at the store to make both of these layouts. For the fall page, I used the actual paper. For the "Pirate Princess", I used the pumpkin paper only as a template for the carriage. So, one piece of paper served two totally different purposes.

One other thing before I sign off for now....keep checking back because soon the next Sesame Street class project will be posted here. This time the character of the month will be none other than ELMO!!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you're having a wonderful week! I had a few things I would like to mention. First, there is still time to register for our "Cookie Monster" class this Saturday. If you want to ensure your spot, please call and sign up today (706-321-0202). Registration will soon be closing.

The other thing I wanted to blog about is more really an FYI. Last week, hubby and I decided to take a little trip to Panama City Beach for some R & R. Well, one particular store we went to had the cutest pink hat. It had the word "hope" embroidered on it as well as the breast cancer ribbon also on it.

I think that most of us know and maybe even love someone who has been affected by this terrible disease. And so, like many, I love to buy things that hopefully contribute to research. So, I take the hat up to the sales lady and inquire how much of the purchase goes to Breast Cancer research. Now to be honest, that is something I cannot ever recall doing. But yet, I did that particular day. Anyway, to make a long story short, the lady said "Oh, nothing for that item, but we do have these other products where a donation is given."

Now something about that seems wrong to me. I'm all for raising awareness, but I think it's also important that people do not use something like the breast cancer ribbon for simply a marketing ploy. To be honest, it made me appalled as a consumer. I realize changing the rules is probably not within my power. But, I can certainly use my blog to make others aware so that we CAN get the donations toward this great cause and support those companies that DO make this a priority.

Money saving tip alert!!

I'm back to the blogging world with a fun new tip to share! Glue dots are wonderful for adhering embellishments to our pages. But we all know how expensive they can be when you use a lot.

So, in my online travels, I found a wonderful idea for making your own homemade dots using glue! All you will need is a bottle of "Aleene's Tack It Over and Over", and an old empty sticker sheet from your stash. Some people have tried using wax paper but apparently, it will NOT work for this purpose.

Cheryl just received a shipment of the Tack It today so if you're interested, stop by to pick some up. Each bottle retails for $4.59 and will make TONS of dots! The best part about this is you can make yours any size you like. Maybe even try making some lines to adhere your favorite ribbon to your layouts!

Apply the glue to your sticker sheet as shown. (Make sure you use the glossy side of your sticker sheet so that the glue dots will peel off easier later.) Allow your dots to dry overnight. The dots will turn clear when they are ready to use.

It seems that I have been seriously neglecting my blog and I decided that today was THE day I was going to do something about it. So much to fill you in on...

Hubby and I had a great trip to Canada. It was so nice getting the chance to spend time with our family, friends, and each other. The time went by far too quickly as vacations often do. I have some pictures and will try to share some of those with you at a later time. Right now though, there is other business that needs attending to. :o)

First, the "A Baby is a Blessing" class is completely sold out. However (and here's the good part!), our Cookie Monster pages are now up! "The Cookie Caper" is the second in our Sesame Street series. It features our loveable blue character in Sherlock Holmes attire. His mission: An empty cookie jar means that it's his job to find the lost (or stolen) cookies! And with that, comes another exciting announcement!!!! My wonderful, supportive hubby bought me a Flip Ultra HD camcorder! I'm still learning the ropes with it (as you can tell from the blurriness of my video)~ but so far, I'm loving it. And with any luck, my videography skills will hopefully improve. ;-) In the mean time, your patience is much appreciated!

Expect to see some new videos with FREE online tutorials featured here in the coming weeks! Cards, scrapbook pages...all kinds of fun stuff!! Today I went to my mailbox and what did I see?

A new Sesame Street font cartridge waiting for me!!

Okay, so the truth of the matter is that I ordered it. But you'll never believe what I paid...$25!!! I wanted to tell you about this because not only is it a fantastic price, but the store owner is such a sweet person and she offers amazing customer service. Even with the craziness of CHA, my catridge was delivered in record time and in perfect condition.

I came across a wonderful article and would like to share it with you. I have heard so many people tell me that they are not creative (which is usually not the case at all!) So, this article comes with a little challenge. Create something today. It doesn't have to be anything to do with scrapbooking or card making. It's whatever you see as fun. God has given us all unique talents and the best way to discover yours is to try something new (or perhaps work with a talent you already know you have). In either case, enjoy the process. Attention Cricut owners!

Cricut lovers, have I got a tip for you!!! I found this great idea in my online travels and wanted to share it with you today. I'm sorry that I don't know the person who originated the idea...but whoever it was, he or she is a creative genius!!

Cricut mats can be expensive if you have to replace them often. And with that money, you could be buying more fun catridges! So, this tip will help once your mat has lost it's stickiness.

First, you will need one two way glue pen (make sure it's the one with the jumbo tip). It's by EK Sucess Zig Memory System and looks like this:

This retails for (I believe) $5.99 so if you can use a coupon for this, you would save a little. (You can check http://www.scrappincricut.blogspot.com/ for a coupon). Kendra is a sweetie who is always kind enough to post any coupons that may be available for any given week. It takes her alot of time and effort to do this, so if you do print one off, be sure to leave her a nice comment. I'm sure she'd really appreciate it.

Now for the instructions...

Clean your mat using soap and water. Allow it to dry. Because patience is not something I possess, I used a hair dryer (on a very low setting) to speed up the process. :o)

Once dry, you will want to tape off the outer portion of your mat where you do not want adhesive.

Starting at the top of your mat, run your glue pen across from one side to the other.

Do this over and over until your entire mat is covered in glue. If you find the glue starts to puddle on your mat, wait a few minutes and then lightly dab that portion with paper towel.

After about 20 minutes, your mat should be nice and sticky. However, if at all possible, it's best to leave it overnight (uncovered) to allow the glue to settle properly. Remove your tape. Then you can cover your mat with it's protective clear sheet again.

Someone requested the dimensions for the ovals used when creating the frog paper piecing. Since the coluzzle is not marked with exact dimensions, these are about as close as I could get. Hope this helps:

Smaller oval for head: approx. 2 3/8 x 1 6/8
Larger oval for body: approx. 2 7/8 x 2 1/8

Going green! (hee hee!)

Okay, so this is not a Cricut project, but it is a fun one that I think you might like. I taught how to make this paper piecing awhile back in our "Toadally Loveable" class. For this project you will need the following:

(1) 5 1/4 x 4 " piece of gray cardstock

(1) 5 x 3 3/4 piece of yellow

green cardstock for frog

small scraps of white and black cardstock for the eyes

6 small red flower punches (I used the EK Sucess paper shaper daisy)

1 small red heart punch (Again, I used an EK Success paper shaper)

2 red dot punches for cheeks (EK Success punch)

6 green rhinestones

Please note: All pieces were inked prior to assembling (Colorbox chalk ink in black for gray mat; yellow citrus for yellow mat; and green for frog pieces).

Directions:

1. With your sheet of green cardstock make 2 ovals, one slightly larger than the other. I used my oval coluzzle for this (Item # 44-4000). With your coluzzle template, count outward from the center of the template. To make the head of your frog, use the oval that is third from the center. For the body, use the oval that is fourth from the center. Adhere the head to the body.

2. For the legs, I used one 1 1/2 " heart cut in half. Adhere each half to either side of the body as shown:

3. For the feet, you will need two 1 1/4 " hearts. Place them as follows:

4. For the eyes, you will need two 1" circles in white, two 3/4" circles in black, and one 1" circle in green (cut once in half for the eyelids).

Now your frog should look like this:

Layer your frog's eyelids on top. Draw in mouth using a black pen. Add red dots for cheeks and also his little heart.

5. Adhere your yellow mat to your gray. Add your frog diecut. Place flowers on mat and emellish each with rhinestones.

You're done! And voila...the finished project!!

Cricut Creation #1

Our project today would be perfect for that friend of yours who has a favorite pooch...or maybe as a sweet journaling card on a scrapbook page of your special pet.

Awhile back, I bought this fun Rusty Pickle paper with the "I love dirt. It is delicious sentiment." I loved it and thought it would be perfect for me since I'm always making dog pages. Well, as it turns out, there is a stamp set that also has that same sentiment (along with many other adorable images). The set looks like this:

It took some looking but with the help of an online friend (thanks Jill in Texas!) finally it was located at http://www.beachaudio.com/ . I can't recommend this company enough. I placed my order two days ago and it was in my mailbox this morning. Excellent customer service and very reasonable shipping!

As soon as I received my stamps, I couldn't wait to start playing. I choose the dog diecut on the Animal Kingdom cartridge (page 128). I used a dark chocolate as the base for my dog, and a lighter sand color for the layers (size: 3" for both). Once I layered the pieces, I adhered the dog to a white piece of cardstock. Then, using my scissors, I trimmed it so as to leave a slight white border all the way around. I used EK success paper shapers for the black nose as well as the heart on the collar. Then I made accents on my dog using both brown and white pens.

The topper/card base itself looks like this:

Dimensions:

Red: 5 1/4 x 4

White: 5 x 3 3/4

Black: 4 3/4 x 3 1/2

Next, we're going to add a mat on which to put our dog diecut. It will be placed more towards the top:

Dimensions:

White: 3 1/4 x 2 3/4

Red: 3 x 2 1/2

Next, I layered my dog on top of the red mat. I also added a little black circle (same punch I used for doggie's nose), one in each of three corners.

My sentiment was placed on a diecut made using the Storybook cartridge. It's the scalloped square on page 47. In order to make this shape, here is what you do:

First, load your cartridge, and place your overlay over the keyboard.

Turn your machine on. Place your mat (with the white cardstock on it) up to the rollers on your machine. Hit "load paper".

Push your Accent Blackout button until it lights up.

Push the shift then "T" button.

On the right hand side, is your dial for the size, turn it to 1 3/4 ".

Then hit "cut".

Now, remove your white cardstock from your mat, and replace it with some red. Load your paper in the same way you did before.

This time, turn your dial size on the right to 2 ". Push the "repeat last" button. Then cut.

Stamp your sentiment on your white scalloped square. I like to use the Versafine Onyx Black as it gives a nice clean, crisp image. Now you should have two pieces that look like this:

Adhere your sentiment onto your red scalloped paper. Before placing that on your topper, cut a small strip of white cardstock measuring 1/4 x 3 1/2 ". Adhere this toward the bottom portion of your card (see picture below). Then place your sentiment on top of it. Because I am not crazy about using ribbon, I added some little black circles to my white strip using a black pen. This gives the illusion of polka dot ribbon.

Hope you're having a great day so far! I have some fun ideas for my blog and wanted to share with you so you can be on the lookout for them.

First, a regular feature called "Cricut Creations" is going to be added to my blog. I'll be giving you a list of supplies I used as well as dimensions so that we can do some fun projects together. How does that sound? The projects could be anything from homemade greeting cards to actual layouts. Subject matter will change from one project to another so I can't give you specifics at this time. What I CAN tell you, is these projects will be cute so I hope you'll stop by often to check them out (and maybe even particpate)! I've heard many of you say you have a Cricut machine but have not used it much. I hope this new addition to my blog will inspire you to dust off your "bug" and show it the love it deserves! LOL

Also, in the coming weeks, there will be a change (maybe several) to the appearance to my blog. It may be subtle, so you'll have to pay careful attention. At some point I'm going to ask you what that change or changes were...and someone with the correct answer will win a prize!! So, keep a watchful eye now that I've given you a heads up! :o)

I'm setting up a new poll in an effort to gain some support for my "cause". You see, it's like this:

Every time I go shopping I see these neat scooters at the front of the store. Walmart has them, Winn Dixie, Target...you get the idea. They're pretty much everywhere tempting me with their little bells and lots of fun buttons.

Hubby is not feeling the necessity of my trying out one of these. In fact, he thinks it's a bad idea. Now I ask you...just because there was a little incident years ago involving a ride on lawn mower and some flowers...does that mean I should be banned forever from all motorized vehicles? Of course not...these things happen, right?

So, I'm taking a poll. I'm sure someone out there in blogger land needs a review of these scooters. And if that were the case...how could I possibly refuse? After all, it would be for the greater good. ;o)

Looking for a fun t-shirt?

Rejean loves t-shirts so I'm always on the lookout for some funny ones. Awhile back, I found this great website called Cafe Press. In fact, I liked their shirts so much, I ended up getting a couple for myself. I guess before I continue on I should tell you two things: First, I consider myself very blessed and am thankful for who God created me to be. And that includes my disability. Second, I have a wacky sense of humor.

Anyway, on with my story:

I found two t-shirts that I considered "must haves". One read: "The only disability in life is a bad attitude." Love that! The other is probably my favorite. It has a wheelchair symbol and reads "In it for the parking".

I wanted to get one other, but alas, it was not to be... it only came in children's sizes. It said "I walk when no one is looking". Too funny!

Just sharing...

Since the Make a Wish class kits are now all put together and ready for pick up, I was able to bring home my demo pages! Yay! So, upon arriving home, I decided to do some extra embellishing and quickly got to work.

As colorful as the layout was, I still felt that the photo mats could use a little something more. Now, I know that the photos will be going on the white mats. But for my own personal albums, I find myself doing alot of double mats for my photos. So, I decided to add a bit of extra color before adding it to my own album. And I have to say, I LOVE the result!!

I thought I'd share the before and after:

If any of you would like to add these extra mats to your layout, all I did was measure each block and make the inner one approximately 1/4" smaller. I say approximately, because I wasn't real exact about dimensions (those who know me will find this quite shocking. LOL!). Then, I chalked the outside of each mat before adhering to my pages.

I hope this post has inspired you to dig out your scraps and see what ways you can embellish your pages further. And if anyone would like to do this but would like the exact colors that I used in the class kit, I know Cheryl still has some in stock.

Bug-a-Boo Class

I mentioned the new Bug-a-Boo class in a previous post. And today, I'd like to share a couple of sneak peeks with you.

Colorful caterpillars, ladybugs and snails~lots of cute bugs all pop-dotted to create a 3D effect. This fun layout could also be used for toddler pages or (thinking outside the box a little here) maybe even ones of your beloved furbaby!!

Titles

Have you ever worked on a layout and had your title perfectly aligned but when you went to adhere it, you glued it in the wrong place? Well, today's tip will help you get perfect placement for your lettering.

Place your title exactly how you would like it on your page. Take a pencil, and lightly mark where each letter begins. Then, when it comes time to glue your title down, you know exactly where to place each letter.

Using your talents for some wonderful causes...

When doing research for today's blog post, I came across a wonderful website. I decided to make this post separate from my Cricut info because I really wanted to call attention to it. I truly believe the work they are doing is a huge blessing.

They call themselves The Limelight Scrappers and their mission is to use their crafting talents to serve some wonderful charities (breast cancer awareness, Ronald MacDonald House, animal shelters, etc). If I didn't have so much going on right now, I would jump at the opportunity to do this. But with a trip to Canada scheduled for later this summer and much to get done before then, well, now is probably not the best time. But in the near future it is something I plan on looking into further and lending my efforts toward.

Until then, I'd still like to contribute in some way. So, I'm passing the info on to you. They are also forming a design team. I believe the deadline for applications is June 30th. Hopefully some of you might have the time to invest in this wonderful idea. Even if your schedule will not afford you the time to be on the design team, I'm sure they would welcome any of your creations as a donation.

Well, a couple I have purchased off of Ebay. In fact, I've heard some people get great deals there. I don't tend to have much luck with Ebay most of the time. However, I do have some resources for you if you're looking for a new cartridge at a reasonable price.

Michael's is obviously one choice. The limitation there is that you have to wait for the catridges to go on sale. So, here are a few online options that I have found:

One website I've used numerous times is Scrappers Must Haves. Typically I have my cartridges within two days of placing my order. I've been very, very happy with their level of customer service! And, as long as you don't mind them cutting off the top of the blister packaging, two catridges can fit into one priority flat rate envelope. This means shipping is less than $5 (if shipped within the U.S). Just remember to choose that option at check out. They also sell some of the more rare cartridges such as Don Juan and Accent Essentials.

There are a couple of other websites I've heard good things about (although I have never ordered from them personally, so I cannot rate their customer service):

I'm sure there are others, but these are the ones I have heard the most chatter about. Oh, one other thing...you might also want to check out http://www.cricut.com . Within their message board, there is a separate category titled "Product Reviews & Deals". There you will find a lot of people selling some of their used (some new) cartridges at great prices.

Now, I also promised I would tell you some of my favorites. First for fonts:

Storybook~I love the elegance of this font...perfect for formal pages or sweet girlie layouts. It also contains several scallop shapes which are so popular in scrapbooking right now. There are also a lot of flourishes on this cartridges. I don't tend to use many flourishes in my scrapbooking, but if this is something that appeals to you, then you will looove this cartridge.

Alphalicious, Doodletype and Learning Curve ~ three different fonts that are all very versatile. They work well for most of your every day kind of pages. Alphalicious has more of a cute, whimsical feel to it.

Now for the shape cartridges:

Doodlecharms ~ has a wide variety of fun shapes. A little something for everyone can be found on this one. It's a great cartridge and I highly recommend it.

Paper Doll Dress Up ~ is very different than the title implies. It has sooo much more than just paper dolls. It has tons of "accessories"! Just a few of the many things you will find on this one include: a pirate ship, witch's cauldron, pumpkin, mummy, a castle for some adorable prince/princess pages, a shamrock, a rocking hourse, a sailboat, a wagon...the list goes on and on. So many adorable items contained in one cartridge. I'd even go so far as to say this is my favorite shape cartridge that I own.

My only buyer's remorse was my Stretch Your Imagination cartridge. There seems to be a lot of great things on this one, and yet I can't bring myself to like it. Don't ask me why because I really don't know. LOL I'm hoping to learn to love it the more that I use it.

A tip to share

Sometimes you learn things by trial and error, as was the case today. Now, keep in mind that this tip may not work if you're using a glue stick/pen to adhere your letters. But, if you're using the hermafix dots, xyron, or the ATG gun (which is what I have) this should work for you.

I was working on a layout and wasn't happy with the font I chosen for the title. And as luck would have it, as careful as I was trying to be, some of the background cardstock peeled off with the letters. Once I removed all my letters, I went back and removed any sticky residue left over. (I use a Pentel Hi-Polymer eraser for this purpose. I believe they can be found at most office supply stores).

Now that the sticky residue was gone, I needed something to smooth the background paper where there were little pulls in it. I found an emery board and decided to give it a try. I gently sanded the little tears and before you know it, you could barely tell where I had messed up.

So, the moral of my story: Invest in an emery board. Mine came in a package of two (purchased at Walmart). A wonderful $ .99 investment to have in your scrapbooking stash.

The lazy days of summer...

Summer hasn't officially started but apparently my dogs do not know this. They are enjoying the good life! I let them out to potty and this is what happened:

After Bailey decided to roll in whatever ick-ies he could find in our backyard, he decided to stage a protest. He was NOT coming back into the house. Now normally, I wouldn't mind leaving them outside, but the temperature is over 90 degrees. And the last thing I need right now is to be charged with animal cruelty. If any of you have ever owned a terrier, you know very well how stubborn they can be. Bailey is no exception. And as you can see from the picture, Muffin is by this time exploring whatever it was that Bailey rolled in. Apparently it was "good stuff".

Anyway, finally Bailey makes a move. He gets up and moves toward me. For a moment I'm excited...we're making progress! He gets as far as the patio and then this:

Nice hair Bailey! You'd hardly know we take him regularly for grooming. Yes, dear readers, he plopped his butt down again!!!

By now I'm figuring this is pretty much a lost cause. So, I try my luck with Muffin. I say her name. This was her response:

Nada! Too busy with whatever "treasures" she has found. So, I try another approach. I say "Muffy, you want a COOKIE?

Success!! Those four years of taking psychology courses did come in handy after all!

So I'm happy to report that both dogs are now safe and sound inside the house. Bailey now has a sore tummy from whatever he ate in our back yard. Suffice it to say, he's insisting on sleeping beneath my chair and Mommy is forced to deal with the "after effects" of his expedition. Nuff said.

Never a dull moment in this household. If anyone is looking for a dog, give me a call. I can make you an offer you can't refuse. LOL

I'm afraid that I haven't been a very good blogger lately. I completely forgot to tell you about the fantastic time we had at the Ice Cream crop. I was a little more on the ball than usual as this time, I managed to remember my camera! So, I have some pictures to share!

The first one really demonstrates how totally inept I am as a photographer. But, it's also a fun picture of two friends who are obviously not taking themselves too seriously. So, here we are...me and the Queen of the Crop in all her glory (well, HALF of each of us anyway)!

I tried the "Quick Fix" button on my photo editing software, hoping to make it less blurry but well...you can see how that turned out. I guess some things just aren't fixable.

So, we decided to try again:

Hmmm...still not good enough. What are we missing? Why, we needed to freshen ourselves up a little, of course!!

A little lipstick and voila!!

Now THIS is the money shot! LOL

Next, we decided our friend Miss Elizabeth was ready for her close-up. I got in the picture with her, just in case she was a little camera shy....you know, for moral support. Yeah, that's it..moral support. :o)

Actually, I have very few pictures of Elizabeth and I together so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity. Doesn't she look pretty in her green shirt? It looked so cute on her!

But probably one of the best things of the night was this:

To borrow a word from Cheryl, it was "yummylicious" in a bowl! Vanilla ice cream topped with M&M's, Junior Mints, a Reese's Peanut Butter cup, whipped cream and a cherry on top! Ask me if I was sick the next day? Violently sick. Would I do it again? Absolutely. There is just some fun in life you can't experience by playing it safe. This was one of those times.

I also got a shot of Elizabeth's creation. It looked yummy also (even though I'm not a fan of nuts on my ice cream):

I have a few other photos of some of my other scrapbooking buddies, and I fully intended on posting them. However, for fear of retaliation, I think it's probably best that I refrain from doing so. I'm guessing at least one of them has an unflattering picture of me lying in their stash somewhere.

A hard week...

Yesterday was a date I had been dreading for quite some time. Around December of last year, my dear friend and neighbor called me to say her and her family were moving to Augusta. Now rationally, I know that it's only a three hour drive and that we can still visit one another from time to time. Yet it seems so much further.

We've only known each other for about 2 1/2 years, but in that time, she has become such a special part of my life. We didn't talk or see each other every day as some friends do, but yet there was this comfort in knowing she was right next door....that either one of us could pick up the phone at any time just to say hi. And often we did just that. As much as I will miss her, I am also very grateful that God saw fit not only to make her my neighbor~but my friend as well. There is a quote I read awhile back and I think it sums up my feelings perfectly:

In other news...

It's pretty much been confirmed that I'm losing my marbles. Yes folks, we all knew it was bound to happen. LOL Let me tell you what happened:

Rejean left for work yesterday morning as he ususally does. I decided since it was still early that I would lay down for a while longer. All of a sudden I could hear something. I get up to check and realize the tv in the craft room was on. So, I turn it off and get back in bed. About an hour later, same thing. Again, I get up and shut it off. Then less than an hour later, it turns on again. By this point I'm getting frustrated and decide to just turn it off once I wake up. When I do get up, I realize the tv is off. Later that afternoon, the tv turns on and off over and over. By now I'm starting to get creeped out a little so I unplug the tv. Rejean comes home after work, plugs it back in, resets the tv. and all last night was quiet.

Well, I shouldn't say ALL was quiet. While Rejean was watching a tv show in the living room, I decided to go to our master bedroom to watch another. Now keep in mind this is a separate tv from the one I was having issues with before. I turn it on, start watching it and then the next thing I know, I see some numbers in the upper right hand part of the screen as if someone is changing the channel. Then, the channel actually changes. Remote for the tv is sitting on the bed.

This morning, after Rejean went to work, it starts again. I'm in the craft room surfing the net and the next thing I know, the tv is turning on and off behind me. Remote is sitting on the table untouched.

I promise I'm not crazy. But if Rejean has me committed, you'll all know why. If any of you have an idea why this might be happening, please feel free to share. We've considered that maybe there is a problem with the remote itself so we may try putting it in a seperate room to see if that stops the problem. I'll keep you posted if we find out what this could be. Unless of course, the "my being crazy" part turns out to be true...in that case my lips are sealed. :o)

I went by the store yesterday to drop of June's class sample. If you haven't been in awhile, you NEED to see the adorable class Cheryl is teaching next month. The picture on the newsletter just does not do this cutie justice!

The swimsuits have designs on each one...kind of like an embossed look. Needless to say, I couldn't resist signing up. So, now that MY seat is secure (LOL), I thought I'd share the details with all of you. I'm so excited that Cheryl is teaching classes, not only because she is amazingly talented (which I'm sure we all know by now)....but she also has such an eye for the little details that make pages so special and unique.

I'm really looking forward to it and hope to see some of you there too! Oh, and on June 5th the Shoppe's having a Sundae crop...ice cream people...ICE CREAM!! Need I say more? Be there or be square! :o)

New Class

Rejean and I arrived home on Saturday after spending three amazing days/nights in Panama City Beach. Our friends R.C. and Elizabeth went too so we had a lot of fun spending time with them.

The view of the beach/ocean from our hotel balcony was incredible! I was absolutely in awe that God created such beauty. If anyone is considering a trip to Panama City Beach, I highly recommend the Legacy hotel. The rooms were very nice and the staff really went out of their way to make our stay a great experience.

Pier Park is a fabulous outdoor shopping center and we really enjoyed spending time there.

We also found many great restaurants which had some of the best seafood I had ever eaten.

A sweet gesture to share and also a buyer beware

Have you ever had a day when you felt both incredibly blessed and humbled all at the same time? I had a day like that this weekend.

I have a baby bug (small cricut) and use it often in my scrapbooking. I love it to pieces. But I'd heard wonderful things about the Cricut Expression. Last Saturday I was in my craft room watching some videos to see what this larger version had to offer. The next thing I know, Rejean comes into my craft room to see what I'm up to. He leaves and then minutes later, returns with this huge box. With a big smile on his face he says "Maybe you'd like to try some of the things you're watching on your own machine...Happy Mother's Day/Anniversary!" (our anniversary is next week). Now, since we'd already planned a vacation to celebrate, the last thing I was expecting was a present.

What made me even more humbled was hearing the story behind the effort he put into this. About three weeks ago I was teaching a class at our local scrapbook store. Rejean decided that would be the perfect opportunity to get my gift. (Yes, in case you're wondering I am a bit of a snooper! LOL). He went the Walmart on Whittlesey Blvd. and bought my machine which contained one cartridge, "Plantin Schoolbook". Two weeks later while at Walmart on Airport Thruway he saw that they had the same machine with TWO cartridges inside for $50 LESS than the one he bought. Figuring that I would love the extra Home Decor cartridge (and knowing it was certainly a better deal), while I was at the crop for NSD, he returned the first cricut and then headed to the Airport Thruway Walmart to get the other.

So, long story short~ Not all Walmarts offer the same deals. So, aside from shopping around~be sure to check the box before handing over your credit card. Luckily Rejean had not opened the box, but if he had, it would certainly have been an issue (they made sure all the tape was in tact before agreeing to the return).

I never ask myself what I could have done to deserve such an amazing hubby. I already know the answer to that. It's only by the grace of God that I share my life with someone that special.

I found this cute little frame for $1 at Michael's. Actually, I bought several in different shapes and sizes. My intent was to put some "portraits" of some Sesame Street characters in each one and then have a giveaway on my blog. I thought they'd be sweet for a nursery or perhaps as part of a baby shower gift. Unfortunately, the other frames fell apart while still sitting in the shopping bag! Cheap glue, I guess. Probably not one of my smartest purchases. Oh well...what do you expect for a buck, right?

Actually, I really wanted to share a little project I completed today. It's for a dear friend of mine who just celebrated her 30th wedding anniversary with her hunny. (that's what she calls him...isn't that sweet?). Truthfully, I don't know what she'll do with this, or even if she'll like it. She may think I've totally lost my marbles, but that's okay too. LOL Maybe she can use it on a layout of the two of them together.

Mainly, I just wanted her to know I thought of her today and am excited for her and this major milestone in her life.

So, here is the paper piecing I made. I put some red cardstock behind it, hoping it will show up better in the picture.

If you would like to make one of these little fellas for your own page, here is what you will need:

(2) 1 1/2" heart punch (wings--white cardstock)

(1) 1 1/2" square punch cut in two (corner to corner--black cardstock). This will be his...how can I word this in a refined, ladylike manner...his bottom. :o)

Coluzzle Oval --largest oval for body (using black cardstock). The yellow strips on his body are 1/2" . I adhered several strips to his body and then turned it over and cut around the black.

Coluzzle Circle--use the fifth circle from the center. This will be his head (black cardstock).

Coluzzle Heart--use third heart from the center. This will be for his face (white cardstock).

The item numbers for the Coluzzle templates are as follows:

Coluzzle Circle: 44-4001

Coluzzle Oval: 44-4000

Coluzzle Heart: 44-4005

I also used several EK Success Paper Shapers (or thumb punches) for this as well. These smaller punches are probably not as popular as they once were, but I find them extremely handy when doing my paper piecings. Here is a picture of the ones I used:

Pink smallest circle--2 black for eyes, 3 red (nose & cheeks)

Orange circle--2 black for tops of antennas, 17 yellow for around face (heart).

Swirl--1 black for mouth (trimmed down)

Heart--2 red for tops of antenna

**Before adhereing the white portion of the face (heart) onto the black (coluzzle circle), remember to adhere the yellow circle punches to the back to give the appearance of a "scalloped" border. You will probably have to overlap them a bit to make them all fit nicely.**

The antennas were made by cutting one 1/4" strip of white. Cut it to whatever length you like and then form a "v" with it before adhering it to the top of the bee's head.

Add any detailing you like with a black pen. Also using a white pen for the hearts on the antennas would be cute.

I want to call attention to the badge I proudly placed on my website today. It's not only to make you aware of something I feel is very important, but it's there also to serve as a reminder to me.

Yesterday I placed on my blog a link to a wonderful website with all kinds of discounts --perhaps to your favorite online stores. But I think there is another aspect here that I feel is just as important. That is, supporting your local small businesses.

There is something about the local Mom & Pop establishments that give you something that the major chain stores just don't offer to the same extent. One being the level of customer service. I don't know about you, but when I go into a small store with a friendly atmosphere and the store owner(s) know my name (perhaps even those of the rest of my family), that makes me feel like I matter...and that my business is important to them.

I realize that with today's economy being strained such that it is, consumers want to get the most they can when spending their hard earned money. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Discounts are great and if we can use them on especially pricier items, then we as consumers need to do so.

But when I do shop for those little things, I plan on visiting my local Mom & Pop stores first to see if they have what I might be needing. It's the places I find fellowship...and am among friends. And that is extremely important to me. My hope is that you will consider doing the same.

It seems to me that there are many times we forget to say thank you to the very people who make our lives a better place to be. So, I wanted to tell you about some wonderful blessings I have received by some special people in my life.

First, I signed up to do the Secret Sister both at the Scrapbook Shoppe and also at our church. And can I just say that I have the best secret sisters ever?! Not only have they given me some very thoughtful gifts which I appreciate so much, it's the knowing that they are thinking of me that means the most.

My sister from church has given me some wonderful gifts...lots of chocolate (who wouldn't love that, right??), a beautiful devotional book and even a gift card to Hobby Lobby! :o)

And then there's my secret sister from the Shoppe. One Saturday I went by the store and received this darling hand decorated container filled with lots of neat things!! Now, I loooove anything homemade, so her putting the time and effort into making me something meant so much to me. I just had to take a picture of it to share with all of you....

Anyone who knows me can attest to the fact that I have two major obsessions....gerber daisies and anything that is black and white. So, Cheryl gave me this adorable framed artwork for my craftroom:

LOVE the sentiment!! It's hard to see from the picture but the colors are so vibrant! And the paint has a shimmer to it...almost appearing as though there are dew drops on the flower.

Then, my dear friend Elizabeth gave me a beautiful journal covered with pearls and a stunning decorative metal box (that has the vintage look that I just adore). The box is magnetic and has such detail, complete with flourishes, beading and crystals inlaid. It's very hard to describe so let me share a picture of it so you can see for yourself just how pretty it is...

A huge thank you to all of you for your thoughtfulness! You all mean so much to me and I feel very blessed to have you in my life.

Something truly special

I found this in my online travels today. Ever since the first time I heard Miley Cyrus's song "The Climb" I've loved it. It's such an inspirational song. So, today I decided to youtube it. Aside from finding the original version, there was also a video from someone by the name of Leah Mertz. Leah is apparently from British Columbia...a fellow Canadian!! :o) And there's no other way to put it...her voice makes my heart melt. There is no doubt in my mind that we'll be hearing her name alot more in future!!

From the poll results, it doesn't appear that there is a great deal of interest in those wanting to create a sketch book. So, I may post a sketch on occassion for you to use as inspiration in your own personal scrapbooks...but I don't think I'll make it a regular feature of my blog.

Things have been busy here. I've been trying to get some spring cleaning done as well as work on some upcoming classes. So, be on the lookout for them soon.

Oh, and just a quick reminder...there's still time to sign up for our "Snips, Snails and Puppy Dog Tails" class this weekend. Money saving tip

We've all seen the cute papers out there that have the adorable decorative edging around it. However, many times the pattern or color does not go with the pictures we are working on.
Instead, buy one sheet of the paper you like and use it as a template for tracing. That way you have the versatility of using any patterned paper you like for your layout.

It would also be a great idea to keep all of your "templates" together by putting a hole in one corner of each sheet and using a ring....or perhaps you can just put them all in a page sleeve. Keeping them all in one place not only makes them easier to find when you want to use them~it also provides a quick reference for you to make sure you do not buy duplicates when you go shopping.

Before any more votes come in on my poll, I thought it might be important to clarify my earlier post concerning the sketch book.

The sketch book idea is a free service that I am offering on my blog. It is not a class you need to sign up for. And although I came up with this idea with my class participants in mind, anyone is welcome to participate. The only reason I decided to place a poll was to determine if instructions needed to provided, or if a picture alone would suffice.

That said, if there is enough interest, my sketches will be 6x6 in size and I will be using the Bo Bunny book (mainly because I want to decorate the cover as well as make some cute index cards to go inside). If some of you decide you want to do the same, please let me know and I'll consider doing an online tutorial on those portions of the book as well.

Stay tuned to find out whether or not this fun project is a go!

I have an idea in which I would love to hear your input. Nothing has been set in stone at this time, so please feel free to make suggestions, ask questions, etc.

Sketch books are a valuable asset to any scrapbooker...especially if you're anything like me and sometimes find yourself in a creative rut. My idea is to give you the option of making a sketch book based on the class layouts I've been offering at the Shoppe. Many of you have been so wonderful about signing up for my classes, I really wanted to do something nice for you!

I'm thinking a BoBunny 6x6 storage binder would work well for this purpose. I believe these albums are pretty inexpensive, as are the page protectors. I'm suggesting page protectors as well because not only will they protect your sketches, but it will also allow you to remove them from your book with ease. That way if you're going to a crop and you want to make a layout based on a certain sketch, you can just remove that page rather than having to carry your book with you each time. Also, if you use page protectors for your sketch book, you can take a picture of the class layout and enclose it with the sketch for reference later. I believe Cheryl can order the book and protectors if it's not something you already have on hand. (706) 321-0202.

After each class, I will list here the instructions on how to make a sketch based on the class layout. This idea will be great to use up some of those scrap pieces of paper that we all have waaaay too much of! The dimensions for the sketch itself will be provided here. Later, when you create your layout, you can then determine what size adjustments will need to be made for photo mats, etc. (depending on the size album you are working with). I made an example to give you a bit of a visual of what I am talking about:

And a close up of the sketch itself. I used all cardstock for my sketch, but you can use whatever scraps you have in your stash.

Okay, my picture is a little blurry, but hopefully you get the idea. :o) Rejean is the photographer in our family.

As time goes on, we may even be able to decorate some chipboard inserts to serve as dividers. Then we can organize our sketches according to themes, etc.

Product Review

My product review today pertains to the Spellbinder's Nestabilities Collection dies. These metal dies are designed to both cut out and emboss shapes.

The first concern is the price is a bit steep at 24.99 per set. Unless you have a coupon to use, the money invested in purchasing different shapes can quickly add up.

Second issue: no directions that I could find. I finally resorted to watching a video on You Tube to find out how to use them.

Third issue: Because these dies also have the capability to emboss your shape, you will also need an embossing mat (purchased separately for an additional $8.99).

To make a long story short, I tried my dies using my Sizzix Big Kick. Now, I have seen alot of reviews online raving about how wonderful this cutting system is. But to be honest, I was less than impressed with the overall finished look. In fact, I plan on returning my dies the very first chance that I get.

My advice is to save your $$ or invest in a nice cutting system with basic shapes such as circles, squares etc. I have several coluzzle templates and love them alot. Also, punches are a great investment...especially if you like to paper piece (like we do in many of our layout classes). They are also available in fancier cuts such as the scalloped circle or square. In my opinion, those would be a much better choice.

Just my two cents, for whatever it may be worth...

Snips, Snails and Puppy Dog Tails!

This is a new class that is now open for registration. I'm really happy with the way it turned out and hope you all like it too. The snail paper piecing contains a secret opening...perfect for adding another picture or perhaps some journaling to your layout.

Time for a change...

I decided today that my blog needed a change, so on the hunt I went for a new background. After trying several, I settled on this one. I like the vintage, yet girly feel to it. So, it's going to be my new look for awhile.

Speaking of new looks, if anyone knows of a great place to get your hair done, please feel free to leave a comment. Up until now, it's been mainly for a haircut, but lately I've been finding a few more gray hairs than I would like, so it may be time to take some serious action. (By the way, is it true that if you pull a gray hair out, two more will grow back? Please say no...please say no....please say no...)

Oh, one more thing before I sign off for now....

It's been brought to my attention that some thought if you click on the ice cream picture on the right, that a coupon for ice cream would come up. I hate to disappoint, but the picture is purely for decorative purposes. To be honest, as much as you know I treasure all of you, this is ice cream we're talking about (which I love in a big puffy heart kind of way). So, chances are I'd be hoarding any coupons I found for myself. Sorry folks, but that's the sad reality of the situation. Sometimes life just sucks that way. LOL

Apparently, I've been "tagged". Not sure how or even why, but not wanting to be a fuddy duddy, I'm playing along. From what I understand, I'm supposed to go to the pictures on my computer and pick the fifth picture from the fifth folder.

Little problem with that...I've only had my laptop since Christmas, so I don't really have alot of "folders". So, I've decided to pick a photo from my stash where the image has the number 5 in it. Fair enough? Okay, I know I'm bending the rules a bit here, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

This is a photo of one of the paintings Rejean and I bought at the Starving Artists sale that was held in Columbus awhile back. Now, it's SUPPOSED to be a Mediterranean style painting but when I look at it on my wall, for some reason, it reminds me of the t.v. show "Three's Company". I asked Rejean what he saw when he looked at it, and his response was the same. Maybe one of you can figure out why that is. It's a mystery to us but we love it anyway.

Big News: Our first ever online class!!

As you know, it's been awhile since I've updated my blog. There are several reasons for this: First, Rejean and I have been re-decorating my craft room. That includes painting the walls. So, everything was pretty chaotic for awhile. Now that the walls are painted, I'm back in my craft room and enjoying my new space. There's still some work to be done, but so far I'm loving it. My room seems so much brighter now!

I'm so excited to finally be able to tell you about another project that's been in the works for awhile now.... our very first online class!! Unlike the classes we hold at the store, for this, you will receive a kit when you register. Enclosed will be a password which you will use on our website to access that particular class. Once you log in, you will find step-by-step directions (along with pictures) to help you complete this cute layout. The class sample is at the store and registration is now open. In case you'd like a little sneak peek:

It's a bit hard to see in the picture (things always seem to look better in person, don't they?), but several items are pop dotted to create a 3D effect. (**Please note that pop dots will not be included in your kit**).

What are five things that make you happy that Spring has arrived?

Here is my list:

1) Easter ~Spiritually, it's the most important time of the year for me because of what it symbolizes.

2) They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so here is my other reason for loving this time of year...

Sooo yummy. I'm in desperate need of a twelve step program or I seriously need to become friends with Jenny Craig...one or the other.

3) Birds singing. I especially love the cardinals and bluejays that visit our feeder.

4) Opening our windows to let in the nice fresh air!

AND...

5) Having the option of letting our crazy dogs outside to play, rather than being inside driving me completely insane. It's a short trip, folks! :o)

6) Going to the park with Rejean and feeding the ducks. I looooove ducks!

7) All the flowers starting to bloom in our garden.

Hmmm....guess that's 7 favorite things...my bad. LOL Math was never my forte...and apparently neither was following directions.

Sugar, Spice...& Everything Nice!

A new class has been completed and is now at the store. The soft colors in this layout would not only be perfect for a baby, but also for that special little girl in your life. Some layout ideas

I've gotten some requests, so I thought I'd share some more of my older layouts. I hope you like them.

First, I decided to take another picture of my Cookie Monster layout as the other one I had posted was so small. So here is a better shot.

And a close up of the blue guy himself:

I paper pieced Cookie Monster by using some oval templates, circle punches and decorative scissors.

Next is a class layout we did for all those special family photos you may have. I believe the patterned paper was by Three Bugs in a Rug. The design on the paper matched the "Olde World Squares" set by Technique Tuesday perfectly. The title was also done using Technique Tuesday stamps.

And finally, one of my most favorite layouts ever, not because of the design itself, but rather the topic.

Thena Smith from Two Peas in a Bucket wrote the sweetest poem for my layout. Maybe someday I will ask her permission to share it with you all. But for now, allow me to share with you my own words that I recorded in recognition of this special time in my life:

"It was Christmas morning 1976. I was four years old at the time. It was also the year my parents gave me the most wonderful gift any child could receive...a beautiful, shiny red tricycle!

What made the gift special is this: I have Spina Bifida and have, since birth, been paralysed from the waist down. So, my parents bought me my bike knowing that I would never be able to use it independently. They pushed me around for hours while I rang the little bell on the handle bar. It was a magical Christmas provided to me by two parents who loved their child enough to give her a gift most would think only a "normal" child should receive.

Santa himself could not have done better."

In the bottom right hand corner of the layout, I also added a little box that says the following:

The snow is melting...it's a good day!

This weekend our "Toadally Loveable" class was held. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves...I know I did. Thank you to all who took the time out of their busy day to sign up. I know the weather was bad and I was very thankful that we had such a great turnout.

Saturday was also a big day for our two dogs, Bailey and Muffin. We took them to Picture Perfect Pets and Connie (the owner) did a wonderful job with them! If you would like to treat your own pets to a nice bath and haircut, I highly recommend them (706-322-7387). Here are our two furbabies after they had a day of pampering...

Muffin had the cutest little bows in her hair~one above each ear.

No bows for our boy, but he came home sporting a sweet bandana!

And now on to other news...

I've been working hard on a couple of new classes. No pictures yet but two hints...one is in celebration of that cute bunny that visits in April... and the other will be perfect for that special little bundle of joy in your life. Stay tuned...more fun things to come!

Finally, I'm back to blogging!

I want to start off by apologizing for the change of date for the "Toadally Loveable" class. Unfortunately, I seem to have sprained my arm. I am doing much better now, but for awhile, I was pretty immobile. It was very frustrating because I'm so used to doing things for myself. One thing is for sure, these days I'm appreciating the ability to use my arms much more! It's weird how we take such things for granted, isn't it? Anyway, today I'm very thankful!

I did finish my parents Valentine's Day card and since they have received it, I can now share a picture with you.

I think there's something special in anything that is homemade. I have a friend named Whitney who has since moved away, but she still remembers to send us a card on several occassions throughout the year. I miss her alot. It takes a special kind of person to be thoughtful like that and I realize how lucky I am to have her for a friend.

In other news...

I have been attempting to change the look of my blog. However, it seems that now I have lost the area where you can enter your email address to subscribe. DOH! Honestly, I find the world of blogging to be very confusing. So, please be patient with me while I try and figure all this out. I'll try to get that feature back a.s.a.p.

I saw that some of you were interested in a Make & Take pertaining to couples. I would like to know what kind of topics you would like to see offered (such as date night, travel, romantic pages, etc.). To make things a bit easier, I'm going to add a poll and I would appreciate it if you would vote. Valentine's Day Card

A little card I made today for my in-laws. The one for my own Mom & Dad is still a work in progress. I wanted to make them both a bit different...especially since my Mom sometimes reads my blog! :o)

I used the Martha Stewart Doilie punch for the scalloped border. My friend Elizabeth used it on her recipe cards (we had a swap shortly before Christmas at our local scrapbook store). When I saw her beautiful cards, I totally fell in love! (and promptly purchased a punch of my very own! hee hee!)

So without further ado, here is a peek at the finished product....

I just realized my "bling" is a little off center. I'm okay with that though...home-made isn't meant to be perfect, right? Thanks for looking!

Some of my older work...

A few people have requested it, so today, I thought I'd share some of my own scrapbook pages that I have completed over the years.

The first one is a layout I made for a monthly sketch challenge at our local scrapbook store. Unfortunately, at the time I was using an 8 1/2 x 11 scanner and stitching is not my strong suit. The adorable paw paper is from Reminisce. I love how fun and colorful it is!

Aside from doing pet pages, I've also been working on layouts for my childhood album. Since I loved playing with dolls when I was a little girl, I thought this pattern paper from Karen Foster would be perfect. I cut the doll houses out of the pattern paper and then adhered them to the second page to make a little "neighborhood". I used some pop dots on various houses to give it more of a 3D effect. Then, using various colored cardstock, I made a paper piecing of a larger doll house (pg 1) to add a coherency between the two pages of my layout. Finally, I added some flower rhinestones...just because every girl likes a little bling! :o)

The last layout I would like to share is also one from my childhood album. I came across some adorable chocolate chip paper one day while shopping at our local scrapbook store. I really wanted to use it, but unfortunately, I'm not much of a baker. But, I remembered how much I loved Sesame Street as a child. So, I decided, why not do a Cookie Monster page?!

Paper piecing is, without a doubt, one of my favorite parts of scrapbooking. In fact, I discovered my love for paper piecing through taking some of Cheryl's fantastic classes. (For those who may not know, Cheryl is the owner of our local scrapbook store. Prior to that, she taught classes for many years and is incredibly gifted). I have learned so much from her.

Anyway, so here is my Cookie Monster page (made again with some cute Karen Foster paper). The picture is a bit smaller...I hope you can see it okay!

The "So Beary Sweet" class has only two spots remaining.

Having the kinds of classes you like is very important to me, so I've added two polls to get a better idea of what to offer. If you wouldn't mind filling them out, I'd really appreciate it! Also, if there is something I've missed and you have a suggestion, please feel free to leave a comment.

I'd also like to mention that class kits are available to everyone, regardless of whether or not you live locally. If you see a class you are interested in, please don't hesitate to call the store (706) 321-0202. As long as the class is not filled, we can ship a kit to you. Here is another class that I finished Friday night at a crop. It's called "Toad-ally Loveable". To be honest, I think it's probably one of my favorite layouts. I'm not sure if it's the colors or the cute little toads, but something about this layout just makes me smile. I hope you like it too.
